Can anyone explain what happened to the last posting by new poster Francoise on the Alexander Ball topic ? It suddenly seems to have gone as I was about to reply to his posting, but was called to other matters?? :?: :?:

That's weird, Stephen. I didn't even see it!

Maybe he deleted it himself?

Perhaps you (or I) could send a PM to francois asking him if he'd like to re-post?

PS - I've just sent a PM to Francois asking him if he'd like to re-post.

Hi Anna,

Unless I have Poltergeist activity on my computer, the whole topic seems to have vanished! Unless I am overlooking something here! :!:

I can see the thread on page 2 when I look in, Stephen, so I can't explain why yours has vanished! If you really can't find it, let me know and I'll email a copy of the thread to you.

Can any computer whizz here explain what might have happened?

Sorry Ann, I could have sworn there was a larger thread on Ball? Strange it would go to page two so quickly :?

No mystery here - Francois deleted his own post, and the Sir Alexander John Ball, 1748-1809 thread reverted to its previous state with 30 posts, the last being in November. There are also a number of other threads which feature Alexander Ball.

Tony

Can we delete our own posts - if so how do you do it?

I'm sure I recall that it was a feature on this forum - but now I can't see how to do it.

Probably something obvious I am missing??!!

Mark,

please, please, please let me nip in here and have the satisfaction of telling you something computer-y!

To delete a post, just click on the little 'x' on the far right of the line of icons in the bottom right hand corner below your text and that will open the 'delete' process - just another click!

Anna . . . thanks . . . but I don't see an x, just an !.

Do you have to be a moderator to get the x?

Might still be me being blind to something - but still a bit of a mystery!!

Something funny here, Mark!

I can see the row of icons on my post - and on yours. Anyone should be able to delete or edit a post he/she has written; only a moderator or administrator can edit/delete someone else's post.

I think this is Tony's department after all.

(Creeps away, red-faced.) Oh, sorry, I've got an emoticon for that!

No need for red faces - you are both right, but a user can only delete a post if there has been no reply to it (otherwise a thread could get a bit weird). Once there is a reply, the X button disappears. Mark, if you look for a thread where your post is the last, you should still see the X button (or more accurately the X button) available. Moderators see the button on everything.
