Looking on eBay I saw this lovely statue of Nelson.

Unfortunately it is too expensive for me.

6 foot 1! That's about 184 cm, Sylvia!

I must say it would be fun to have - but where could I put it? Maybe on a plinth in the garden?!

Hello Anna,

I would put the statue in the hall, the house I live in has a large/big hall, so there would be room for him. You are right, it would be fun, although I also can imagine the comments my sons and friends would have.

I wonder if one day we can discover who made and/or sold these statues.

Several years ago we traced at least 3 of them. One was in a pub in Devon, one was in a private collection etc. etc.

I am sure that this is a fourth one.

What a wonderful talking point if you had one in the hallway of your house!!

Anna

Would love it - but I daren't!!

I am trying to declutter/downsize etc. etc. at the moment.

If I had one I think I would like to have it painted like the one here.

As you see this one was owned at one time by a clock dealer. He had had it for ages but said that it still made his wife jump out of her skin when she walked into the showroom and forgot it was there.

Well - just over £400 - and definitely not me!!

I reckon that is a very reasonable price when all is said and done.

I am sure that over the years you could easily have £400 worth of fun with this fascinating artefact.

I'm still intrigued as to who made them and when and how they were originally sold.

This is a bit more manageable at 17 inches high, but the auction ends in 4 minutes as I type. An interesting piece, though - very vigorous!
